Raj Gosai was born in Coventry in 1958, after hi parents emigrated from India to Coventry in 1955. He attended the City of Coventry Boarding School and studied art 'A' Level at Coventry Technical College, whereupon he met future illustrator, Nick Davies who created the classic 2 tone spoof; "The Specials Illustrated Songbook" and has remained friends ever since. Whilst studying art at The Lanchester Polytechnic (now Coventry University) he completed his Art Foundation year and made friends with jane Davies (then partner of Neol Davies of Selecter), Toby Lyons (of Swinging Cats and Colourfield fame) as they too were studying at the same location. Raj held his first art exhibition at the Cottage Tea Rooms (Now Eden) Coventry, August 6th-12th, 1984. He has broadcasted on BBC CWR radio and given talks on popular cultiure icons, Batman and James Bond. His 2 tone memorabilia has been exhibited at The Herbert Art Gallery and has made contributions to the book "Coming to Coventry" by Pippa Virdee published in 2006. He is proud of Coventry's contribution to the music world and hopes this has wetted the appetites for people to investigate further. His hobbies include attending concerts on various music styles, and the cinema. Raj still resides in Coventry and is happily married with two wonderful children. "When Coventry was Special and Other Pop Stories" is an exhibition of eighteen illustrations including The Specials, Elvis Costello, Hazel O'Connor, king and The Enemy.
